We started Ava on a lactose-free diet (or at least lactose minimization diet). She has been incredible happy the last few days. She has done more giggling, hugging, smiling and playing than ever before. It may just be a coincidence, but it appears that we have determined what was affecting her mood. I'm so happy that she is happy!

  1. I am so glad to hear that. Can they do testing for her to see if she has an allergy?

  2. I haven't talked to the doctor yet about this whole lactose thing. I suspect that it isn't an allergy, but rather that the lactose is just difficult for her digestive system to handle. I'll let you know what the doctor says. It seems that most people with milk allergies are allergic to animal proteins rather than the lactose.

  4. I guess it really doesn't matter. If she is happier away from the lactose, then I would keep her off of it. I remember that Ben's niece Josephine always had really awful stomach aches after she drank or ate milk products. They took her off of dairy for about three years and then she was able to do it just fine. If it makes for a happy baby then I say go for it.
